Mauricio Pochettino has revealed Dele Alli suffered an injury to his left hamstring in the second-half against Fulham, although hopes it is not a “big issue”.
The England midfielder struck the equaliser after Fernando Llorente’s own-goal gave Fulham the lead. Alli was then substituted after 86 minutes, clutching his left hamstring, but Spurs managed to rally late on in stoppage time as Harry Winks drove home the winner to move Spurs seven points clear of fifth spot in the battle for a top four finish.
Alli could be seen holding his head in his hands on the Spurs bench and Pochettino said the midfielder would be assessed on Monday.
“I think we all see that during the action he suffered an injury in his left hamstring, but now we need to assess him, hope it's not a big issue,” Pochettino said.
“We need to be careful and assess what's going on.”
Winks’ goal was his first in two years and he shared the message delivered by Pochettino to maintain belief until the end.
“It’s a great moment and a win that we needed,” Winks said. “We knew it would be a tough game.
“He said keep believing, we had a good first half, but he said keep believing and keep playing and it allowed us to get higher up the pitch.”
Pochettino will now turn his attention to Thursday’s second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge with a slender 1-0 advantage.
But Alli’s potential absence only stretches Spurs’ squad further, with Harry Kane’s ankle injury and Son Heung-min on international duty further weakening their attack.
