Dele Alli's hopes of sealing a deadline day exit from Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a blow following comments from Inter Milan chief Giuseppe Marotta.
The England international is pushing to be allowed to seal reunion with Mauricio Pochettino at Paris Saint-Germain, something Jose Mourinho has reportedly given his approval to, but the final decision lays with Daniel Levy.
With Spurs losing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to injury, Levy is said to not be keen on losing Alli unless a replacement is lined-up.
That led to the resurgence of interest in Christian Eriksen, who has endured a tough 12 months with Inter Milan, and the Denmark international seemingly held the key to Alli's chances of an exit.
Heading into deadline day, Alli's chances of being allowed to leave have been handed a significant blow after Marotta ruled-out any late departures from the San Siro - namechecking Eriksen in the process.
"As Antonio Conte said, if there are some players who are unhappy and want to find other clubs, it's not right to withhold them," he told DAZN.
"We do not have any of those situations. Therefore, this is the squad we will have at our disposal until the end of the season.
"When you're in a big club, there are no starting players or deputies. There are just professionals who must answer to the coach and his decisions. A player can play less than one of his team-mates but still manage to be more influential.
"Over the course of the campaign, Eriksen too can have an important role in the team, whether he plays more or less."
