Dele Alli gives honest assessment of Tottenham's form and their return to Premier League action

Dele Alli will be looking to replicate his start under Jose Mourinho once Tottenham return to Premier League action.

Far from his best in the 18 months prior to the head coach's appointment, the attacking midfielder hit the ground running under the 57-year-old with four goals in his first four games.

The goals have since dried up with only two goals in 2020 so far but one of the reasons for this could be put down to the team's wretched form prior to the break in play.

Without Harry Kane, Moussa Sissoko and Son Heung-min, the Lilywhites failed to register a win in their last six games before the suspension of football.

The good news is that Mourinho finally has a full squad to choose from and Alli has stated that all the players have returned to training "hungry" as they look to put things right and climb the table once again.

"We are excited as it was an unexpected break having the season cut midway through," he said after taking part in a charity FIFA20 match as part of Gamers Without Borders.

"From a Tottenham point of view we were not doing well enough before the break and we know that but we’ve all come back to training hungry and we want to improve so everyone is excited so we just need to dig in.”

Alli came up against former Tottenham target Paulo Dybala in the charity football event but unfortunately lost both games.

However, the results could have been different had he not missed crucial penalties.

Speaking after the defeats against the Juventus ace, he said: “Being competitive it’s tough to lose, there were some strange decisions from the ref!

“I’m not very good at penalties on FIFA so when I got them I expected to miss. It was a very tough game. He was a deserved winner.”
