Dele Alli a doubt for Tottenham's Premier League opener with hamstring injury

Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli is a doubt for the start of the Premier League season having picked up a hamstring injury.

The England international was unavailable to face Inter Milan in Spurs' final game of pre-season and is now a concern for their League opener against newly promoted Aston Villa in north London on Saturday.

Dele missed nine Premier League games through a similar injury last season and did not enjoy a full summer off having travelled to the Nations League finals with England just days after Tottenham's Champions League final defeat to Liverpool in June.

Defender Juan Foyth also missed out the final pre-season game with an ankle problem meaning, with Serge Aurier not yet ready to play despite having returned to training, Kyle Walker-Peters was given another chance to impress at right-back following the departure of Kieran Trippier to Atletico Madrid.

Both Christian Eriksen and Toby Alderweireld, who have a year left on their Tottenham contracts and question marks over their future, were left out of the starting XI.
