All lanes have now reopened on the northbound carriageway of the M1, which was causing delays of around 35 minutes for motorists travelling in that direction.
Earlier in the day, a collision between junctions 26 and 27 resulted in three lanes being closed.
Two lanes were reopened at first, but there was still congestion, which Highways England said was adding around 35 minutes to journey times.
The remaining lane was closed for recovery, and motorists were urged to allow extra time for journeys.
But now all lanes have reopened and no delays are reported.
