Delays in Bolton after major road closed due to crash

Traffic disruption is hitting Bolton this morning following a crash in Tonge.

Delays are being reported after Tonge Moor Road was closed in both directions just after 8am on Monday morning, October 4.

The closure, between Thicketford Road and Firswood Grove, also is affecting bus services, Transport for Greater Manchester says.

In a tweet, TfGM said: “A676 Tonge Moor Road [is] closed between B6208 Thicketford Road and Firswood Grove due to an RTC.

“Local bus services may be delayed or diverted, please check before you travel. [Check] #TfGMTraffic for updates.”

The road is a major thoroughfare for commuters trying to access the A58, M61, and Bolton town centre.

Inrix, a traffic monitoring service, is also reporting queues building up as of 8:15am.

“A676 Tonge Moor Road in both directions closed, queueing traffic due to accident between Firwood Grove and B6208 Thicketford Road,” its report said.
