Delays expected as work gets underway to resurface part of Friarton Bridge

Drivers have been told to expect delays when carriageway resurfacing works get underway on a section of the M90 southbound on Friarton Bridge near Perth next month.

The project will involve teams carrying out surfacing and localised deck concrete and waterproofing repairs on the southbound carriageway across the bridge.

BEAR Scotland says the work will ensure the bridge continues to operate safely for road users.

The works are planned to take place over five days using 24-hour working, with all work expected to be completed by 6.30am on Monday 15 February, subject to weather conditions.

However, restrictions will be in place.

On Tuesday, February 9, overnight lane closures on both the northbound and southbound carriageway will be in place between 7.30pm and 6.30am.

On 7.30pm on Wednesday, February 10 until 6.30am on Monday, February 15, a contraflow system of traffic management will be in place with single lane traffic running in both directions on the northbound carriageway.

Due to the location of the resurfacing the Junction 11 on-slip from Perth (A85) onto the M90 southbound will be closed for the duration of the project. A signed diversion route via A90 Kinfauns Interchange will be in place for southbound traffic.

On Monday, February 15, lane closures on both the northbound and southbound carriageway will be in place between 7.30pm and 6.30am to allow for the removal of the traffic management.

During peak periods, delays of up to 16 minutes could be experienced when the contraflow is in place.

Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s north east representative, said: “This latest investment from Transport Scotland will allow us to carry out carriageway resurfacing and localised repairs on the M90 southbound carriageway on Friarton Bridge to ensure that the structure continues to operate safely for all motorists and function to the highest standard.

“The traffic management is essential to ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists during this project. To help minimise delays as much as possible, we’ve planned the improvements to be carried out using 24-hour working, and our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible.”
