Delayed start for Adelaide courthouse after glass panel breaks inside building

The Adelaide Magistrates Court is on the corner of King William Street and Angus Street in the CBD.

One of Adelaide's busiest courthouses had a delayed start to the working week after a glass panel broke inside the building, the second one to break at the site in the past month.

State Courts Administrator Julie-Anne Burgess confirmed the incident this morning, and said no one was injured as it happened over the weekend when no one was in the building.

She said the panel had been identified as "at risk" and treatments had been applied to the glass which needed 14 days to cure.

The glass panel broke within that two week period.

The Courts Administration Authority of SA confirmed there had been a delay to proceedings this morning and the courthouse reopened at 10:20am.

Ms Burgess said the building was only reopened after additional safety measures had been put in place.

Glass 'showered to the ground'

It is the second incident in recent weeks.

The courtrooms were closed after a glass panel broke on the fourth level of the building for "no apparent reason" earlier this month.

At the time a spokesperson said the building was closed during the afternoon of February 7, to allow engineers and SafeWork SA officers to assess the integrity of all glass panels surrounding the atrium.

The spokesperson said small pieces of glass had "showered to the ground floor" inside the building.

It happened during a lunchbreak and no one was in imminent danger.

At the time, seven courtrooms were adjourned and relisted and the court reopened the next day, although courtrooms on the fourth level remained temporarily unavailable.

The ABC has contacted SafeWork SA for comment.
