JAIPUR: Delayed monsoon in North India, including Rajasthan, came as a blessing in disguise for the mango lovers.
Usually, the mangoes get out of the market by the first week of July when the majority of the places in Uttar Pradesh start getting monsoon rainfall. But this year, due to delayed monsoon, the season for the mangoes has extended as good quality of mangoes of all varieties are available in the market at cheaper prices. Wholesale traders of Muhana Mandi on Thursday stated that mangoes would be available till July 20.
This year ample varieties from UP and Gujarat, including Dusseri, Langra and Chausa, was available in Jaipur markets. Since monsoon has been weak so far, it has saved mango crops. Wholesale sellers at Muhana Mandi are getting truckloads of mangoes on a regular basis which has led to cheaper prices and its availability in the market. “Since there is a delayed monsoon, production of mangoes is good. Rainfall damages mangoes and affects their taste. This is the reason why we are getting good quantity of Dusseri, Langra and Chausa variety of mangoes,” said Kisan Lal Saini, a wholesale dealer of mangoes at Muhana Mandi.
Traders mentioned that Dusseri variety of mangoes from Malihabad, Rampur and Lucknow in UP are coming in large numbers which the reason why its prices are comparatively cheaper this year. “In wholesale market, we are selling in Rs 35 to Rs 45 per kg which is available in Rs 50 to Rs 60 per kg for retail customers. People are buying boxes of 10kg Dusseri mangoes which are available in Rs 400 to Rs 480 depending on the size of mangoes,” said Mahesh Harsadani, a wholesale trader at the Mohana Mandi. Traders said it appears that mangoes will continue to arrive in state till first week of August.
