The Tennessee Titans officially moved on from tight end Delanie Walker on Friday, as he was one of four roster cuts the team made last week.
Walker should be an attractive option for teams looking to add a veteran tight end who can help in the passing game and is a good blocker when healthy.
Just who might some of those teams be, you ask?
Let’s take a look.
New England Patriots
After years of having immense talent at tight end, the Patriots got next to nothing out of the position in 2019.
Whether or not Tom Brady returns, the Pats need to upgrade, and Walker would be the kind of veteran addition New England would make.
And I’m sure Walker wouldn’t mind playing for the Pats, a team that would give him a chance to win a Super Bowl in 2020.
Washington Redskins
The Redskins had their own issues at the tight end position in 2019, as Jordan Reed wasn’t able to suit up at all after suffering a concussion during the preseason.
Now that Reed has been cut and is a free agent, the Redskins need to find a solution to help their young quarterback, Dwayne Haskins. This kind of situation is familiar to Walker, as he was vital in the development of Marcus Mariota when he entered the league.
Granted, Mariota didn’t pan out for the Titans, but that was not the fault of Walker, who did all he could to help Mariota succeed and grow with little else around him on offense.
While Walker likely won’t have the same motor as he did in the past, he’d still be a big upgrade for Haskins to throw to at tight end compared to what he has now.
Atlanta Falcons
With Austin Hooper set to hit free agency and likely to command a big payday, the cash-strapped Falcons will be in the market for an affordable tight end this offseason.
Walker would qualify as such, as the 35-year-old (36 when 2020 begins) probably won’t garner a ton of money on the open market.
The Falcons will have a big void to fill with Hooper leaving, and Walker could be just what the doctor ordered in the Falcons’ high-volume passing attack.
