Dejan Lovren has joined a number of well-wishers congratulating his former Liverpool team-mate Philippe Coutinho on winning the Champions League while also having a playful dig at his ex-Reds colleague.
The Brazilian’s hopes of lifting the European Cup with Barcelona were dashed when he played in their 4-0 defeat to his old club at Anfield in May 2019 with Jurgen Klopp’s side going on to defeat Tottenham Hotspur in the final.
However, Coutinho ended his 2019/20 season on loan with Bayern Munich by coming off the bench as a 68th minute substitute for Serge Gnabry in their 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in Lisbon to help the German side emulate Liverpool by winning the competition for the sixth time.
The 28-year-old has been linked with a return to the Premier League but could be handed a reprieve at the Camp Nou by new head coach Ronald Koeman.
He received online messages of congratulations from fellow Liverpool old boys including Jamie Carragher, Alberto Moreno, Luis Garcia and Dominic Solanke plus current captain Jordan Henderson who was one of his close friends while at Anfield.
However, Lovren’s note came with a caveat.
The centre-back, who called time on his own six-year stint with the Reds this summer after clinching their first League Championship since 1990, had a playful dig.
Now with Zenit St Petersburg in Russia, Lovren replied to Coutinho’s Instagram post showing him holding the European Cup with the message: “Congratulations brate (slang for brother). Finally.”
