Dejan Lovren sends message to Liverpool fans after Aston Villa embarrassment

Former Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren took to Twitter to send a message to fans after watching his former side humiliated at Aston Villa.

The Croatian centre-back, who left Anfield for Russian side Zenit St Petersburg in the summer, said that fans shouldn't blame "one or two" players for a defeat.

The Reds shipped seven goals at Villa Park in a horror show performance, with goals from Ross Barkey, John McGinn, two from Jack Grealish and a Ollie Watkins hat-trick dealing the Reds an embarrassing defeat. Mohamed Salah scored twice for Liverpool.

Goalkeeper Adrian was at fault for the first goal and Joe Gomez endured a difficult time, but Lovren, who was targeted for criticism on many occasions during his Liverpool career, said the team must take responsibility.

He wrote: "Never blame one or two players for a defeat. There is 11 players on the pitch who work as a TEAM, sometimes there are good and bad days, tomorrow is a new day. Move on!"
