Dejan Lovren gives verdict on close friend Mohamed Salah's Liverpool future

Liverpool's Mohamed Salah is "focused" on the club despite speculation he could leave the Reds this summer, according to his friend and former teammate Dejan Lovren.

Lovren and Salah played at Liverpool together until the former left the Premier League club to join Zenit St Petersburg last summer.

Reports have suggested Salah could move to another club in the transfer window, with Barcelona and Real Madrid said to be interested.

But Salah has continued his good form for Liverpool amid talk of his departure and he is in the running to win the Premier League's Golden Boot.

He has scored 22 goals in 36 league appearances and his closest competition for the gong is Spurs' Harry Kane who has also slotted 22 goals.

Lovren told Sky Sports : “I cannot talk in his name about what his plans are but I think he's similar to me. If he's focused he's focused there and he showed that with the goalscoring.

“You never know what can happen in football. I wish him all the best, I hope he wins lots of trophies at Liverpool but football can be quite changeable so let's see.

“We'll always be in contact, he's more than a friend. He knows he can call me whenever he wants and whatever he wants to talk about we are there for each other.

“Even if the club doesn't do that well it says a lot about his personal qualities.”

Liverpool may not claim any silverware this season but they have clawed themselves back into the race for Champions League qualification.

The club's 3-0 win over Burnley on Wednesday saw them leapfrog Leicester City to go fourth which has brought the qualification battle down to the final round of the season.

Liverpool will play Crystal Palace on Sunday, while Leicester will take on Tottenham.
