Dejan Kulusevski breaks silence as Ange Postecoglou's first Tottenham signing in £25m transfer

Dejan Kulusevski has offered his verdict on new Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou after the club completed his permanent transfer last week. The Swede joined the club on loan from Juventus in the January transfer window in 2021 on an 18-month loan and has now been officially confirmed as a Spurs player.

Despite a challenging 2022/23 campaign, where Kulusevski managed just two goals and assists from 37 games, Spurs pushed forward to permanently sign him from Juve. In a club statement, the Italian giants confirmed Tottenham had "exercised the option rights for the definitive acquisition of the registration rights of the player Dejan Kulusevski for a consideration of €30 million (£25.6m), to be paid in six financial years".

There had been some talk of the signing not going through with Postecoglou not convinced by the 23-year-old. However, the new Spurs boss himself approved the move and Kulusevski was keen to stay at the Premier League club so the deal was signed and sealed before the loan had reached its conclusion.

Kulusevski is currently on international duty with Sweden but has conducted numerous interviews since he was confirmed as a Tottenham player. In one of those conversations, Kulusevski was asked what he thought of Postecoglou and his response was very telling.

“My understanding is that he was very interested in me," he told SportBladet. "I'm glad we're getting a new coach with new ideas. What I've read and heard about him is good." Although he has played 57 games already for Spurs, Kulusevski is technically Postecoglou's first signing at the club and several more are expected to follow soon.

Brentford goalkeeper David Raya is one of those names and personal terms are already close to being agreed. The Bees value Raya at £40million but Spurs are hopeful of negotiating that fee down to a more affordable price. Leicester's James Maddison is also a summer target with it almost guaranteed he leaves the Foxes after their Premier League relegation.

Postecoglou wants Maddison to join Spurs as he is seen as the perfect option to fit seamlessly into his preferred 4-3-3 formation and the 4-2-3-1 he could look to also deploy.

The north Londoners will face a battle with Newcastle for his signature, but a new report from the Northern Echo revealed the 26-year-old prefers a move to the capital.
