Deiveson Figueiredo, Brandon Moreno set for UFC flyweight title rematch on June 12

After engaging in an instant classic last year, Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno will run it back in a UFC flyweight title rematch.

Reigning 125-pound champion Figueiredo (20-1-1 MMA, 9-1-1 UFC) rematches Moreno (18-5-2 MMA, 6-2-2 UFC) on June 12 in an event that does not yet have an announced name, venue, or location.

Two people with knowledge of the matchup confirmed the booking to MMA Junkie but asked to remain anonymous since the promotion has yet to make an official announcement. ESPN was first to report the news.

After claiming the vacant flyweight title with a submission of Joseph Benavidez in July, Figueiredo notched his first successful title defense when he quickly submitted Alex Perez at UFC 255. He would go on to make a three-week turnaround to face Moreno at UFC 256 in what ended up being one of the best fights of the year.

Figueiredo and Moreno battled to a majority draw in a bout that saw Moreno able to absorb Figueiredo’s best shots and fire back with big strikes of his own in a 25-minute back-and-forth battle. A point deduction for an inadvertent groin strike in Round 3 cost Figueiredo the fight on the judges’ scorecards, though the draw ensured the Brazilian still retained his title. Now the pair will run things back in search of a definitive result.
