Deirdre Conroy is a Fianna Fáil candidate for the Dublin Bay South by-election. In 2019, she was elected to Dublin City Council.

What is Deirdre Conroy's job?

Cllr Conroy works as an architectural conversation specialist and is an opinion writer for the Irish Independent.

She has advocated for the planned Metrolink to run from St. Stephen’s Green to Rathgar, Terenure and Templeogue.

Where did Deirdre Conroy go to college?

The qualified barrister studied a BA in History of Art & Architecture and English in University College Dublin. She went on to further her studies and completed two masters’ degrees in the areas of architecture and planning.

Conroy has campaigned to protect architectural heritage in her area.

How was Deirdre Conroy involved in the Repeal the 8th campaign?

In 2002, when Conroy was 16 weeks pregnant, she was told that her child would not be able to survive outside of the womb.

She was involved in a European Courts of Human Rights case against the state for the right to terminate a viable pregnancy.

The case was known as D v Ireland and was one of the significant early decisions that led to the repeal of the 8th amendment.
