Deion Sanders on Colorado Players Fighting During Practice: ‘I Love It’

Colorado head coach Deion Sanders has a unique approach to in-team fights, admitting that he actually enjoys it when a skirmish kicks off among his players.

During this week’s Colorado Football Coaches Show, Sanders spoke about the Buffaloes’ recent practices, and was overjoyed to report that there were a couple of fights throughout the week.

“We’ve had a great week of practice. We had a couple of fights, which I like,” Sanders said. “It’s a great thing. I always want to know who won because I keep records. I don’t break them up. Some coaches break them up. I don’t. Some guys fight hoping for the break up. No, we’re going to let you go.”

Sanders's comments on practice begin at around the 30-minute mark below.

“So, we did have a couple fights this week, and I love it. They’ve been getting after it. It’s almost like a rededication. It’s almost like a refocus. I love where we are. We’ve had great practices this week, offense, defense, as well as special teams,” he said.

It may be an unconventional approach, but Sanders hasn’t shied away from it, and was clearly pleased with how practice played out throughout the week.

Back in August, Sanders was unhappy with some of Colorado’s players after they failed to get involved in a fight that broke out at practice. He was seen shouting at two players who had walked away from the scuffle, saying, “if one fight, we all fight.”

Sanders will be hoping that the strong week of practice will have the Buffs prepared for the final stretch of the season. Colorado (4-5) has three games left on the schedule, two of which are against Top 25 opponents, No. 21 Arizona and No. 18 Utah.
