DEHRADUN: A security guard, in his mid-50s, was allegedly attacked by a man with razor blades for foiling a theft attempt at the gynaecology ward of the Government Doon Medical College and Hospital.
The incident occurred on Tuesday night and a case was registered at the Kotwali police station on Thursday. According to the guard, Devendra Singh, there was a ruckus on the floor when two unidentified men tried to get away with valuables of a patient's attendant.
In his police complaint, he said that hearing the noise, he reacted and was able to hold on to one of the thieves. “But the accused took out a razor blade and managed to get in a few cuts on my left arm. In the ensuing struggle, the thief was able to escape,” said the guard in the complaint.
Officials said that people and other staff in the ward were able to apprehend the second thief who was later handed over to the cops. Singh was admitted to the emergency ward for treatment and is doing fine, officials said, adding that he was back on duty the next day. Based on Singh’s complaint, a case was registered at Kotwali police station under IPC sections 323 and 506. “Following the medical report, sections of attempt to murder may be added. A search is on for the attacker,” said Vidyabhushan Negi, station house officer, Kotwali.
