Call Mulder and Scully - things got a little bit strange up in the sky above Edinburgh last night.
Local Cherry Martin shared images of bright white lights above Leith on Facebook late last night with the caption: "Anyone else seeing these moving lights projecting into the sky?! Video would have been better but too dark. Any ideas?"
The real reason for the lights have since been revealed but it didn't stop Leith locals speculating as to what the lights were.
One Facebook user on group I LOVE LEITH where the images were shared joked "It's the trams" while another guessed "Definitely aliens....it is 2020 after all."
One resident added: "Nothing in the NOAMS (notice to airmen) warnings, which something that powerful into the sky would require to do."

The correct answer however was: "Think it's to remind folk that this'd be the start of the festival and that venues like Leith Theatre are still there trying to exist."
Ferry Road venue Leith Theatre had in fact set up the beautiful light projections last night so there's no need to call the Men in Black quite yet.
The theatre is currently operating as a community foodbank donation point and is open 12-5 everyday for donations.
