Defibrillator installed in tribute to Viceroy Bar landlord is vandalised

A defibrillator which was installed in tribute to the former landlord of the Viceroy Bar has been vandalised.

Peter Derrick, 58, died of a cardiac arrest after attempting to remove a violent customer from the Paisley Road West pub in July last year. He was rushed to hospital where he was put in an induced coma, however died 12 days later.

Thomas Conaghan, 59, pled guilty to killing him at Glasgow  High Court yesterday (Friday). Conaghan is due to face sentence next month.

Glasgow Live previously reported on how heartbroken daughter Robyn had launched a fundraiser to fit life-saving defibrillators in memory of her dad.

Over £13,000 was raised to have the defibrillators, which cost £1,500 each, installed between the Viceroy Bar and Rangers' Ibrox Stadium, in Peter's memory.

Daughter Robyn told the Daily Record of her disappointment at the incident - understood by police to have taken place either late last night or in the early hours of Saturday morning - saying: "As a family we are all very disappointed that someone has chosen to steal a piece of equipment which was installed there to help save lives."

Following the launch of an investigation into the vandalism, a Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed to Glasgow Live: "Officers in Glasgow were made aware of a defibrillator having been vandalised on Paisley Road West.

"The incident is thought to have taken place sometime between Friday, 31 January and Saturday, 1 February, 2020.

"Enquires are ongoing."
