Defiant Rod Stewart announces new charity gig after Royal Variety backlash

Sir Rod Stewart swiftly announced a new gig after receiving backlash for his performance at the Royal Variety on Sunday.

Fans were disappointed with the 76-year-old's performance, saying it was 'awful' and 'embarrassing'.

Despite the social media complaints, the Do Ya Think I'm Sexy? singer took to social media after his gig to announce another performance.

Sharing a picture of himself along with some details of the performance, Sir Rod promoted The Stars Come Out To Sing At Christmas gig.

It was a charity performance for Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy, which was being streamed online for free.

The virtual show was hosted by Nile Rodgers and had the likes of Shakira, Tony Bennett, Enrique Iglesias, and Neil Young performing.

Other performers include Rebecca Ferguson, Robbie Williams, and Roger Daltrey & Paul Weller.

Sir Rod has not commented on his performance for the Royal Variety.

Fans had a lot to say about it, with one writing: "No thanks. Got as far as Rod Stewart and that's enough. #RoyalVarietyPerformance."

Another person tweeted: "That was AWFUL sir!#RoyalVarietyPerformance

A third viewer posted: "@ ITV anyone else just had third party embarrassment watching Rod Stewart? Please call it a day Rod, please. #RoyalVarietyPerformance."

And a fourth added: "Rod Stewart....I literally have no words for that performance #RoyalVarietyPerformance."

Some loved every moment of the performance, with one viewer writing: "How I love Rod Stewart on the Royal Variety, he’s rocking the leopard print with his chicks."

Another person said: "#RoyalVarietyPerformance here’s a daring idea. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it, instead of criticising everything. Some of us are enjoying it."

The annual event took place at the Royal Albert Hall in London with Prince William and Kate Middleton attending.

It's not the first time Sir Rod received complaints about the performance of his track One More Time.

Back in November, the musician appeared on The Graham Norton Show to promote his song from his new album, The Tears of Hercules.

The 76-year-old star joined the likes of Lady Gaga and Adam Driver on the BBC series and was keen to have a sing song.

At the end of the show, Graham introduced Rod and said: “Right, time for music, this band have been topping the charts for over 50 years here performing his single One More Time, it is Sir Rod Stewart."

But as Rod took to the stage wearing a black sequin blazer, viewers took to Twitter and shared their disappointment.

After his performance, the musician joined the host and the other stars for a chat but couldn't hear what Graham was saying about Rod being 'as fit as a flea'.
