Defiant Ole Gunnar Solskjaer makes Ed Woodward claim ahead of Man Utd's trip to Everton

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer came out fighting with his job on the line and claimed he still has the full backing of the Manchester United board.

Defeat at Everton could signal the end of Solskjaer's 23-month reign at United, with former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino waiting in the wings.

But on the eve of the game that could determine his fate, Solskjaer said he still believes he can be a success at United.

And he insists he still has the support of the club's hierarchy.

“If I don't trust my beliefs and values, and my staff’s quality and my players' quality, who else should?” said Solskjaer.

“I'm not happy being under pressure. But I’ve never really been in too dark a place.

“The pressure of leading and managing United, you have to have strong shoulders and a strong head to carry.

“I don't look at one or two results and fall like a house of cards. It's not long ago we were the best thing since sliced bread when we beat Leipzig and PSG.

“That’s how it is in football. You have to have that belief in yourself, the club, the players.

“The club have been very positive and shown me their character and strong leadership.

“I've always had a very good, open, honest and positive dialogue with the club.

“Today it's sunny in Manchester and I don't expect the wind to turn, but of course there's always pressure and expectations on us.”
