Defiant Jesy Nelson raps along to Nicki Minaj after a week of chaos since Boyz release

Jesy Nelson has taken to her Instagram to post a video of herself rapping along to Nicki Minaj's part in their song collaboration despite recent backlash.

Nicki and Jesy have been in the midst of controversy since the release of their new song Boyz which is also Jesy's first solo track.

However the former Little Mix singer seems to be ignoring the backlash as she posted a video of herself singing along to the track to her Instagram stories.

An explosive debate has sparked in the last week which is partly due to the video is including references to early naughties rap music videos which has sparked accusations that Jesy is trying to appropriate and capitalise on black culture and black history.

As well as this, there has been accusations that Little Mix's Leigh-Anne Pinnock hit out at Jesy by messaging a fan telling them to make a video accusing the Jesy singer of ‘blackfishing’ which is a form of cultural appropriation.

Leigh-Anne, Perrie Edwards and Jade Thirlwall have all unfollowed their former friend on Instagram, as Jesy only follows P.Diddy and Nicki Minaj who she collaborated on Boyz with.

A number of other musicians seem to have also unfollowed Jesy on her Instagram page despite some having worked with her during her Little Mix days.

The Sun reported that fellow singer Anne Marie, who collaborated with the band on a song called Kiss My (Uh Oh) 'made it clear where her allegiance lies' and has unfollowed Jesy.

They also claimed that 'Paloma Faith and MNEK have supported the group publicly since the argument erupted'.

Jesy left Little Mix last year due to mental health reasons.

At the time she said: "The truth is recently being in the band has really taken a toll on my mental health. I find the constant pressure of being in a girl group and living up to expectations very hard.

"There comes a time in life when we need to reinvest in taking care of ourselves rather than focusing on making other people happy, and I feel like now is the time to begin the process.

"I need to spend some time with the people I love, doing thing that make me happy. I'm ready to embark on a new chapter in my life - I'm not sure what it's going to look like right now, but I hope you'll still be there to support me."
