Defiant Holly Willoughby 'has nothing to hide' as she prepares for This Morning comeback

Holly Willoughby is defiant ahead of her return to This Morning and has "nothing to hide" after being lied to by former co-host Phillip Schofield.

The mum-of-three, 42, is said to have been 'crushed' by the fallout surrounding her former colleague, 61, who admitted to having an affair with a young runner on the ITV daytime show.

Holly has taken a two week break from the programme amid calls for the Wylde Moon guru to be sacked, but a source said she will be back on the sofa on Monday, insisting the presenter has 'nothing to hide.'

The mum-of-three will reportedly be joined by co-host Alison Hammond.

Speaking about Holly's response to Phil's bombshell statement in which he admitted lying to ITV about his 'unwise but not illegal' affair, a source told The Sun.: "She has made it clear she was one of the people Phil lied to and she has nothing to hide.

"She will return to This Morning as planned on Monday and carry on like the professional she is.

"Holly has been affected by Phil's actions and it has been very difficult. She is devoted to This Morning however and will continue to do the best job she can for them."

The Mirror reported Phil's shocking admission left ITV bosses desperate to 'save the show and its executives.'

They said: “The next few weeks will be a desperate bid to save the show – and the jobs of the execs. Fingers are being pointed at the top brass, even though he admitted he lied to all of them.

“The show’s wholesome image is clearly tarnished, but bullish ITV execs are not going to just throw the baby out with the bath water.

“They are determined to prove that the brand is stronger than any single presenter, and that they can give it a fresh start after Schofield.”

Rumours of a “toxic” atmosphere on the set of the popular ITV daytime show have been swirling since Phil stepped down from presenting duties before making the shock admission he had been in a relationship with a younger male colleague.

Eamonn Holmes, who previously presented This Morning with wife Ruth Langsford claimed the TV show staged a “cover-up” to protect the popular hosts, claiming both Holly and Phil were “uncaring” towards other staff members

Holly has been laying low since the scandal unfolded last week, but released a short statement on social media over the weekend, in which she said Phil’s lies had been “hurtful”.

The Mirror has contacted reps for Holly and ITV.
