Defensive tackle Jarran Reed returns to Seahawks practice field

The Seattle Seahawks kicked off the first day of the team’s mandatory minicamp with the return of one of their starting players.

Defensive tackle Jarran Reed, who underwent a sports hernia surgery in April, participated in some early drills on Tuesday.

“That’s the first chance he’s had to get back out there,” coach Pete Carroll said after practice. “He’s been working a lot and conditioning on the side to make sure he’s coming along. But just the fact that he was out there, it was fun to see him out.”

For Seattle last season, Reed logged 50 combined tackles and 10.5 sacks.

While Reed enjoyed a limited return Tuesday, fellow defensive lineman Ezekiel Ansah, who the Seahawks signed this offseason, remained a spectator on the sidelines.

Carroll explained that while Ansah’s shoulder is healing nicely, the team doesn’t expect to rush him back anytime soon, including training camp, set to start at the end of July.
