Defensive lapses cost Brentford again as Leicester punish the Bees with late winner

Lapse of concentration

Brentford had shown a defensive resolve earlier in the season, but they've been naive and poor at the back in the past week, which has come back to bite them hard. Leaving Ben Chilwell unattended on the edge of the penalty area in what was Chelsea's only shot on target last weekend, and they were caught out again on Sunday.

It was a game that was in Brentford's hands, having equalised through Zanka's first for the club. Pontus Jansson saw a header go agonisingly wide from a corner and Brentford appeared the more likely winners. Things took a turn for the worst when the in-form Patson Daka had sprung the offside trap and unselfishly squared home for James Maddison to tap home, deflating the Bees entirely.

How attacking the West Stand in the first half has been a hindrance

For its great atmosphere particularly pre-match, Brentford's home record has become a huge disappointment in recent weeks. They have not won at home since beating Arsenal 2-0 on the opening day, and have lost three of their past four in the league at home. Strangely, it was Liverpool they managed to take a point from but have fallen to Brighton, Chelsea and Leicester in the past couple of weeks - all games they should have taken something from according to Thomas Frank.

In two of those defeats, Brentford attacked the West Stand in the first half. They are considered the 12th man but things such as attacking the West Stand first can be considered a problem especially if the team are losing in the second half, but the Bees need to find a way to get over that should that be the case for future games - and fast.

Lack of depth and Forss' time to shine?

A newly-promoted side is always going to have problems with injuries and depth, and Brentford are no different in that regard. They have suffered injuries to players like Vitaly Janelt and Shandon Baptiste in central midfield and there is no question they have been missed.

Leicester had Harvey Barnes and Ademola Lookman on their bench - both of whom would have came on if not perhaps started for the Bees yesterday if they were part of their squad. It's important Brentford don't panic at this stage yet, but they need to hold the fort until January especially with a hectic festive schedule coming up.

Going forward, Yoane Wissa is currently out with an ankle problem meaning Brentford currently only possess one attacking alternative in Marcus Forss, and the Finn has only made two substitute appearances in the league so far this season, not as many minutes as he would have liked.

However, Bryan Mbeumo went off in yesterday's defeat with a minor hamstring injury which could see the Finn get more minutes, and with three games left until the next international break, he won't get a better chance to show what he can do.
