Defensive end Everson Griffen: ‘never say never’ on a return to Minnesota

Everson Griffen voided his contract with Minnesota this offseason, but many Vikings fans didn’t panic.

He freed up $13 million in cap space for the Vikings, a team that was in danger with the salary cap at the time. Griffen could have re-signed for less money, helping the cash-strapped Vikings contend in 2020. At least, that’s what some people hoped would happen.

Griffen announced on Instagram that he would be leaving the team this offseason. But now there’s a new twist to the tale: Griffen recently told Tom Pelissero of NFL Network “never say never” about a possible return to the Vikings.

Pelissero also said that other teams have questions about what happened in 2018, when he was dealing with personal health-related issues. The defensive end had a resurgent 2019 after his bout with personal issues, tallying eight sacks and an interception.

Minnesota has a little over $12 million in cap space for 2020 right now, according to Over The Cap.

He recently opened up to Pelissero about what he had to fight through in 2018, saying that he lived in a sober house for three months.
