Defensive duo shine at Livingston's virtual Player of the Year awards evening

Defenders Jon Guthrie and Jack McMillan were the big winners as Livingston held their player of the year awards ceremony with a difference.

The current Covid-19 situation meant a traditional end-of-season awards night was replaced by a virtual one with fans able to follow the club’s social media accounts throughout the evening as the winners were announced.

And it was the defensive duo who collected the most awards with three apiece.

Guthrie won the directors and coaches player of the year as well as the player of the year trophy voted by both the supporters and the Livi Lions Supporters’ Club.

Bathgate lad McMillan proved his worth with a string of impressive displays in both full-back positions and matched Guthrie with three trophies as he won the young player of the year awards voted by the players, supporters and Livi Lions Supporters’ Club.

Matija Sarkic, who spent the first half of the campaign on loan from Aston Villa, was named the directors and coaches young player of the year.

Striker Lyndon Dykes (below) won the top goalscorer award as he netted 12 times during a campaign that has seen him linked with a move to a slew of bigger clubs.

The Aussie ace’s wonderful chip over Fraser Forster in Livi’s 2-0 home victory over Celtic in October was named goal of the season.

Marvin Bartley provided much hilarity throughout the evening as he voiced his displeasure at the recipients — even jokingly threatening to leave the club and sign for Berwick Rangers — before eventually getting his way as he was named players’ player of the year.

Each announcement was followed by a video message from the winner, with head coach Gary Holt finishing the evening with a reflection of the
season.

He said: “For the fans and our sponsors, I can’t thank you enough. Hopefully, you have all enjoyed the season.

“It ended prematurely but what we achieved on and off the pitch has been magnificent.”
