Defensive back commitment Clark Phillips makes Ohio State a top-5 Class of 2020

With just 13 recruits, the Ohio State University has moved into a top-5 recruiting Class of 2020 according to 247Sports. The recent commitment of four-star star Clark Phillips barely topped Notre Dame who boasts eight four-star recruits.

Phillips will enhance the Buckeyes defensive commitments, which had been an area of concern with what had been in the fold so far for 2020.

Behind the classes’ best offensive tackle, offensive guard and wide receiver, the Buckeyes offense will arguably be one of the best in a year or two as long as things are in good shape at the quarterback position.

However, before Phillips signing, their secondary had just one recruit, safety Lejond Cavazos.

Now with a presence over the top and one on the edge, Ohio State should be ready to take compete against some of the Big Ten’s most dynamic offenses like Michigan, Nebraska and Penn State.

That said, the Buckeyes, who had the No. 14 recruiting class last season, still have a few offers out and could continue improving their roster. Defense, especially in the middle of the field, is still a huge area of concern.

With multiple five-star recruits, the Buckeyes should be more than fine. Not picked by many to win the Big Ten, Ryan Day has his work cut out for him in his first full season as head coach.
