Defense dominates as Thunder get first win in 120-92 route of Warriors

It might not be the rivalry game that’s it’s been for the last three seasons, but it was still pretty sweet for the Thunder to notch their first victory of the season with a 120-92 trouncing of Golden State.

Dennis Schroder came off the bench to lead Oklahoma City with 22 points on 9-of-13 shooting. He also pulled down eight rebounds, dished out six assists, and came away with four steals in 25 minutes of game time.

He told the media after the game that he was just trying “to help my team win a ball game.”

“I just tried to help my team win a ball game. We played amazing, just got stops as a team and from there played together on the offensive end. Got it flowing.

Four other Thunder players scored in double-digits. Danilo Gallinari scored 21, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had 19, and Terrance Ferguson, in what was far and away his best game of the season, added 13.

Hamidou Diallo, who was questionable prior to tip-off, with an ankle injury suffered Friday against the Wizards, played 13 minutes and scored eight points.

Oklahoma City dominated the game from start to finish and on every major category on the stat sheet.

The Thunder shot 55.7% from the field while holding Golden State to just 32.6%. OKC’s perimeter defense was even better, allowing the Warriors to hit only 5 of their 33 attempts from beyond the arc.

Two of those belonged to Steph Curry, who finished with a game-high 23 points but needed 18 shots to get there.

Per the Associated Press, it’s the largest margin of victory over the Warriors since the franchise moved from Seattle prior to the 2008-09 season.

Oklahoma City has a quick turnaround. The Thunder head to Houston where they will square off against the Rockets and former teammate Russell Westbrook Monday night.
