Defender Scott McMann says Hamilton are on the right path to a successful season

Scott McMann reckons Hamilton are on the right path to a successful Premiership campaign, but says they must tighten up.

Accies’ Betfred Cup campaign has heralded two draws and a win, with Accies taking the shoot-out bonus point from Partick Thistle on Saturday.

That leaves them having to take a win from Airdrie on Saturday in to progress in the competition, and McMann said: “I’m disappointed not to take the three points against Thistle, but we created a lot of chances and we just need to tighten up a little bit.

“The bonus point gives us a chance of qualifying but we feel that we should be winning these games, and it's disappointing not to win, but it's good to win the penalty shoot-out and give ourselves a chance.

"In the second half especially we created a lot and just couldn't get the third goal or the fourth goal to kill it off.

“We created enough, we just have to be a bit more focused defensively and we should be fine.

"We want to focus on ourselves and prove ourselves. I feel like offensively we look good and we're creating a lot of chances but, again, the gaffer keeps saying we need to win games like those.

"There are no pre-season games, it's not friendlies, but games we need to be winning.

"Now we need to win at Airdrie to give ourselves a chance, so we know what we need to do.

"As a team we need to improve all over the pitch."
