Defender pursuit boosted as Sabri Lamouchi holds crucial Nottingham Forest talks

Lamouchi's Greece visit

The post-mortem of Nottingham Forest’s catastrophic failure to make the Championship play-offs looks set to continue.

Head coach Sabri Lamouchi and head of international recruitment Jose Anigo are both understood to be out in Greece, meeting with owner Evangelos Marinakis with a blueprint for the new season set to be mapped out.

Forest ’s shock capitulation in the final six games of the campaign which saw them miss out on a place in the top six on the final day, looked like it might see the end of Lamouchi’s year-long reign at the City Ground, but for now, his future in Nottingham looks secure.

He is, however, in Athens to explain why things went so badly wrong and discuss plans for the new season, according to Greek media outlet Sportime, who suggest part of the decision to keep faith with Lamouchi is down to Marinakis’ positive relationship with the Frenchman’s agent, Jorge Mendes.

Freeman boost

Huddersfield Town are unlikely to join Nottingham Forest in the chase for ex-Sheffield United defender Kieron Freeman.

The Daily Mail this week reported Freeman had darted onto Huddersfield's radar as the Terriers look to sign a  right-back following the departure of Danny Simpson.

But Yorkshire Live say that Freeman is unlikely to be joining the club after speaking to sources close to Championship side.

That would leave Forest and Swansea as the two clubs battling it out for the defender which were named in the Daily Mail's story earlier this week.

With Matty Cash looking set to leave the club this summer after a £10m bid from Sheffield United was rejected earlier this week, Forest will be in the hunt for a replacement.

New kit launch

The new Championship season is starting to appear into view, and with preparations beginning to go up a notch, Nottingham Forest have revealed their new home kit.

Macron's latest bespoke kit for the Reds is a simple, stylish design, with white sleeves and collar plus additional red piping, there's also a flash of white near the shoulder and at the bottom.

For the second successive season, Forest's shirts will be emblazoned with Football Index, after the gambling company extended their deal in what David Cook confirmed was the club's biggest ever.

"The club are delighted to announce the continuation of this partnership with Football Index,” said Reds chief commercial officer Cook.

“We have enjoyed getting to know the team at Football Index well over the last 12 months and we are thrilled that they will again be supporting the Reds in the next campaign."

Toney saga takes new twist

Nottingham Forest target Ivan Toney could be set to miss out on a move to Celtic and sign for "someone else", Peterborough United's director of football Barry Fry has revealed.

The Reds have been touted as one of many clubs hoping to sign the League One hotshot who is attracting interest both in the Championship and north of the border.

Celtic appeared to have overtaken Brentford in the race to sign the forward, but have so failed to agree a fee for the talented forward who is one of the brightest talents outside the top two divisions in England.

And Fry now says that Toney is close to moving elsewhere if Celtic don't hurry and thrash out a deal.
