Defence probe into alleged training fraud

Defence is investigating allegations of fraud at the Australian Army's recruit training centre. (AAP)

A Defence probe has been launched into allegations of fraud at the Australian Army's recruit training centre.

The investigation is focused on the Adventurous Training Wing (ATW), a sub-unit of the Army Recruit Training Centre based in Kapooka, NSW.

An internal report detailed complaints of financial irregularities and alleged the involvement of private training provider Group 314, the ABC reports.

Group 314 was contacted for comment. The ABC reports it has strongly denied any wrongdoing.

A Defence spokesperson confirmed the ATW was the subject of an investigation by the Fraud Control and Investigations Branch from May to September this year.

"The army is undertaking a further review of ATW matters, therefore it would be premature to comment at this time," the spokesperson said.

"The inspector-general of the ADF is not currently examining this matter."
