Defence Forces and gardai find shotgun, ammo and 'possibly firearms' in massive search operation in Blanchardstown and Corduff in west Dublin

The army and gardai have discovered shotgun ammunition and "possibly firearms" in a massive search operation in a feud hit community.

The massive search operation was launched in Blanchardstown and Corduff areas of west Dublin.

It comes as gardai recovered a handgun and silencer in searches on Wednesday.

The garda operation involved troops from the Defence Forces' engineering section and garda search teams.

The operation, by Blanchardstown gardai, is targeting part of an ongoing feud between two families in the immediate Corduff area.

A spokeswoman said: "In further searches arising from the recovery of a loaded Makarov handgun with silencer on the 28th of May 2019, Gardaí continued to search a wooded area off Waterville Road on the 29th of May 2019.

"Further assistance was provided by the Defence Forces on the morning of the 30th of May 2019. During the course of these searches – shotgun cartridges and other items purporting to be firearms were recovered.

"This operation was targeting the possession of firearms and their use by crime gangs in the Blanchardstown area.

"Gardai and Defence Forces have concluded the search operation at this time."

They are suspected to be involved in the drug and have been subject of garda organised crime probes.

Tensions are high in the Corduff area, near Blanchardstown, after two months of feuding gang violence.

As exclusively revealed by the Irish Mirror a gang war has broken out on the streets of Corduff, near Blanchardstown, in West Dublin.

At least a dozen shootings have happened in recent days as a gang split into two factions.

Gardai seized at least five shotguns in raids after a gun battle broke out on the streets of Corduff.

The Irish Mirror obtained footage of the shootings as two gunmen traded shots.

Three members of one of the family were arrested for a search by gardai as they feared for their safety.

They were taken to Blanchardstown Garda Station but later released.
