Deer shot in Leeds as police deal with 20 animal incidents in 24 hours

The shooting of a deer in north Leeds was just one of 20 animal-related incidents West Yorkshire Police had to attend in a single day.

Officers from the Wildlife and Rural Crime team are appealing for information after the illegal shooting, which happened in the LS17 postcode.

The team posted a report on their Facebook page yesterday (June 12) and said that the shooting was one of 20 incidents they attended in just 24 hours.

The offence committed was 'killing a deer out of season', they said.

Last week, the force attended 85 cases including a cruel incident that saw a bird shot with a catapult before it was fed to a dog at Wykebeck Woods.

And in June, the force attended more than 100 animal incidents around West Yorkshire.

They said: "In the last 24 hours, there have been 20 incidents involving animals across the force area.

“A deer was shot in the Leeds 17 area. Crime recorded for killing a deer out of season crime number 13200348441.

“There were no other reports.”
