Deer saved from Halloween pumpkin after chase through woods

A group of volunteers in Ohio spent more than two hours stalking a deer to rescue it from a plastic Halloween pumpkin it was wearing like an oversized clown nose.

Aaron Meyerrenke shared photos and video of the deer and the people who participated in Anderson Township's "Great Pumpkin Chase 2017" on Facebook.

The deer can be seen walking easily or lying down and although it tries to remove the decoration, it does not look too worried about wearing it — but with its nose stuck in the pumpkin it would not be able to eat.

Ohio issues licences for deer hunting using a bow and arrow in October, but these hunters used a metal snare pole — a noose on a pole used to catch and control wildlife — and let the deer go.

"After 2.5 hours of chasing this deer through thick and hilly woods tonight, we successfully got the pumpkin off its head," Mr Meyerrenke wrote.

"Glad it had a happy ending."
