Deer have been observed along the Ara River since the end of May and the Metropolitan Police DEpartment and others are calling on people not to get too close, as deer can be dangerous when spooked.
An over 1-meter-tall deer was seen Tuesday morning in Shinden, Adachi Ward in Tokyo, the MPD said. Police officers and officials from Adachi Ward ran after the deer chasing it into some bushes. They tried to capture it in a net, but the deer got away.
A deer was also spotted about 8 kilometers upstream in Itabashi Ward, Tokyo, at the end of May. It is believed to be the same deer that was spotted in Adachi Ward.
It is rare to see deer in any of the 23 wards of Tokyo.
The Environment Bureau of the Tokyo metropolitan government believes the deer may have followed a stream down from the mountainous region in the western part of Saitama Prefecture.
