Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon open entries for Virtual 5K Relay event

The organisers of the Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon have opened entries for their Virtual 5K Relay event to celebrate children returning to school.

With over 1,832 schools in Northern Ireland embracing for their return under new guidelines, children will be faced with many changes and perhaps challenges – however one thing that shouldn’t be any different is exercise.

Belfast City Marathon Ltd are hoping that 5,000 runners, walkers and/or joggers will complete a 5k during the month of September. For these 30 days, children, parents, teachers and other members of the public should come together to pass the baton “virtually” through exercise.

The 5k is only £10 per person and all registrants will receive a special medal. The event is open for all ages but children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. There is also an option to purchase an event tech t-shirt for £5*

*This must be purchased at time of registration

Event Manager, Claire O’Neill said: “It is a very different and difficult time for us all at the minute. As we enter a period of ‘unknowns’ with our children returning to school or college, we wanted to introduce something fun and possibly a distraction for people to do together.

“Relaying 5k throughout the month of September is an achievable challenge; whether completing this in one session or over a course of days or weeks, it is something which keep us motivated physically and mentally.

“To help start you off, I am pleased to offer a FREE running buff (worth £5) to the first 500 people who register for our Back 2 School 5K Relay which can be used in a variety of ways, so don’t wait too long.”

Belfast City Marathon Ltd would like to encourage all participants to continue with their donations to official charity partner Cancer Focus Northern Ireland. Every penny is vital for supporting their services at this incredibly difficult time.
