Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon: Meet Robert Horvath from the Experiment 26.2 team

Each week we will feature one of the ambassadors from the Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon Experiment 26.2 team.

The group consists of 15 people who will be taking on the challenge of running a marathon for the first time on Sunday May 3, 2020.

Name:

Robert Horvath

Tell us a little about yourself:

I am an ambassador for Translink where I work as a Glider driver.

I moved to Belfast from Hungary 8 years ago.

What inspired you to take on this challenge?

I always thought about running the marathon one day, this is on my bucket list and when my colleague mentioned this opportunity, I jumped at the chance.

Were you an active person before you signed up?

Yes, sport has always been an important part of my life. In Hungary I was a P.E. teacher, however I only started running 2 years ago when I signed up for the Lisburn 10K.

Longest run to date:

Deep RiverRock Belfast City Half Marathon.

What has been the biggest struggle so far?

Our training started 5 weeks ago - I had a chest infection in week 3 and had to stop running for 9 days.

What are you enjoying?

I enjoy the training plan from Stuart Kennedy (Official Coach) because every day is different. I feel energized and mentally fresh after each run.

What kind of things do you think about when you’re running?

I think a lot about my family back home, especially my parents and my sister. I’m also helping plan my wedding, which keeps my mind very busy. Sometimes I just listen to the nature around me.

Do you think you’ll keep up the running after race day?

Yes of course, it is part of my life now.

Has your diet changed?

I have always been a healthy eater, but now I try to include more vegetables and less sugar in my diet.

What’s the first thing you’re going to do after the marathon?

The first thing I will do is give my fiancée a big hug at the finish line. She is my biggest supporter. Then probably a few beers and a big meal to celebrate.
