Deep Cover plot
Deep Cover follows three improv actors, Kat (Bryce Dallas Howard) and her students Marlon (Orlando Bloom) and Hugh (Nick Mohammed), who aare hired by a police officer called Billings (Sean Bean) who wants to use their acting and improv skills to help him snare criminals. But the actors’ instinct to say ‘yes’ to everything and to remain true to their characters at all times sees them become tangled up in London’s criminal scene, impersonating dangerous criminals. The trio quickly find themselves in over their heads.

Deep Cover has a great cast including Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World) as actor Kat, The Lord of the Rings movie star Orlando Bloom as her student Marlon and Nick Mohammed (Ted Lasso) as another student Hugh.
"Marlon is a method actor who is out of work and takes himself way too seriously," says Orlando. "And Hugh is a banker who stumbles into Kat’s class and is looking to build his confidence with his colleagues at work."
Sean Bean (Time, Game of Thrones) plays Detective Billings, while Ian McShane (John Wick, Jesus of Nazareth, Pillars of The Earth). House of the Dragon’s Paddy Considine, Omid Djalili and Sonoya Mizuno play career criminals and drugs barons who the trio get embroiled with leading to many tense and high-octane action scenes.
There are also a host of familiar faces in smaller roles including Susannah Fielding, Katie Wix and comedian Sophie Duker.

Bryce Dallas Howard tells us about her role in Deep Cover: "This was sort of a no brainer for me. It was such a fantastic script. Deep Cover is a British action comedy and I'm the lone American in it, not pretending to be British. I get to use my own accent. That's a terrifying thing. I'm that alone American with a bunch of Brits
"Basically, I play a improv comedian who is kind of down on her luck and she's also a teacher. Then she gets recruited to be a part of low level state operations for the cops. And she can bring two of her students into the mission, and she is forced to bring two of her worst students, played by Orlando Bloom and Nick Mohammad. One is a guy who's taking improv lessons because he wants to have confidence in his work, and so she does all these slick operations with them. And they get into a lot of trouble with these criminals, because they keep saying the wrong things.
"It's an absolute blast, and there's so much energy. It's 99 minutes and is just one of those movies that kind of has everything you want. You end up feeling really satisfied. You know, it's good to be in a comedy. It's healthy. There’s a brilliant balance between action and comedy which is propulsive and entertaining.
"There is an autopsy scene with a chainsaw that is just bananas. I also loved it when the entire cast comes together for some scenes towards the end. We had so much fun.
"What I love about Kat is that she’s not a spy or a fighter, she’s a comedian and a teacher and that becomes her superpower. Her improv skills foster adaptability and listening – things that are really crucial, whether you’re having a tough conversation, facing the unknown or, in this case, going undercover in a criminal empire!"
Nick Mohammed interview on playing Hugh in Deep Cover
Nick Mohammed says: "Hugh is an office worker at a crossroads in his life. When he stumbles into one of Kat’s classes he decides to have a go to build his confidence. He is very quickly out of his depth but he realises he has found some soulmates in Kat and Marlon. He even has a bittersweet relationship with one of the criminals, Shosh.
"Deep Cover has a premise that is inherently funny and it’s based on a true story. The FBI apparently used an improv comedy troupe to go undercover because they believed they’d be better at coming up with backstories than undercover cops.
"We shot in some brilliant locations around the East End of London and I particularly enjoyed doing the night shoots because they were stunt-heavy. It was my first foray into the action world and it felt like the real deal."

Deep Cover is a movie based on an original script by Derek Connolly & Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World, Safety Not Guaranteed) with British improv duo Ben Ashenden & Alexander Owen setting the script in London. It's produced by Trevorrow via his Metronome Film Co. alongside Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald (Men In Black, Galaxy Quest). Annys Hamilton will co-produce. Tom Kingsley, known for comedy series Stath Lets Flats, will direct.
