Deebo Samuel, 5 others ruled out for 49ers vs. Washington

The 49ers enter their Week 7 showdown against Washington with an even more dire injury situation than they had in Week 6 at Los Angeles. San Francisco on Friday ruled out six players, including rookie wide receiver Deebo Samuel for Sunday.

While the 49ers haven’t endured the sheer volume of injuries they had a season ago, the number of starters they’re losing is going to make winning much more difficult. Including Samuel, they’ll have five starters out for Sunday, and another key contributor in defensive tackle DJ Jones.

The good news is tight end George Kittle isn’t on the injury report at all as he works through a groin injury. He was questionable last week and played.

They showed against LA they’re capable of overcoming injuries and cobbling together enough offense to win. They should be able to do the same against a lowly Washington club. However, winning beyond that is going to be much more difficult. The 49ers badly need to win Sunday, and then get healthy with the toughest portion of their schedule looming.

Here’s the official injury report for Sunday:

Out

DT DJ Jones (hamstring)
CB Ahkello Witherspoon (foot)
FB Kyle Juszczyk (knee)
OT Mike McGlinchey (knee)
OT Joe Staley (fibula)
WR Deebo Samuel (groin)

Questionable

RB Raheem Mostert (knee)
