Dedryck Boyata to leave Celtic and sign for Hertha Berlin

Dedryck Boyata is poised to join Hertha Berlin this summer after agreeing a package with the Bundesliga side.

The Belgium centre-back is out of contract at the end of the season and Celtic are resigned to him going.

Boyata has almost certainly played his last game for the Hoops too with Neil Lennon admitting a hamstring injury suffered in last week's gruelling derby win will rule him out for the rest of the season.

Greek giants Olympiacos were credited with renewing their interest in the 28-year-old this week, after trying to buy him in the summer.

But Boyata has now agreed to move to Germany and play for Hertha Berlin, who currently sit in mid-table in the Bundesliga.

Ambitious Hertha are set for a rebuilding job next season and have been looking for a replacement for Swiss international defender Fabian Lustenberger, who is returning to his homeland with Young Boys Bern next term.

Hertha manager Pal Dardai has been given the green light to reshape his squad next term and the former Hungary boss made Boyata his main target for the summer.

German reports have insisted Boyata has agreed to move to the German capital and he is set to play his football at Hertha, who last won the league in 1931.

Boyata made 135 appearances for Celtic in all competitions over a four year period and won seven major honours.
