Dedryck Boyata gives Celtic boost ahead of Rangers clash as he starts for Belgium

Dedryck Boyata has handed Celtic another major Old Firm boost.

The Belgium defender looks set to face Rangers in the Premiership on Sunday week having started for his country in last night’s Euro 2020 qualifier against Russia.

Boyata was forced to miss last weekend’s victory over Dundee at Dens Park after manager Neil Lennon revealed an injury issue kept his international centre back out of the game on Tayside.

However, the 28-year-old has been fit enough to train with the rest of the Red Devils squad this week and confirmed his full recovery when named in the starting line-up by national coach Roberto Martinez.

Boyata must also come through Sunday’s Group I game against Cyprus, but his availability would be a big boost to Lennon who is also expecting to have Tom Rogic and Olivier Ntcham back for the Old Firm showdown.

The Australian and the Frenchman are set to step up their returns by featuring in a behind-closed-doors bounce game at Lennoxtown today as they maintain their rehabilitation to full fitness.
