Dedric Lawson signs with Spurs after summer league stint with Warriors

Former Kansas forward Dedric Lawson’s name wasn’t called in the 2019 NBA Draft, but he got a shot in the league anyway when the Golden State Warriors signed him to their Summer League team.

In the California Classic and Las Vegas Summer League, Lawson averaged 6.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. But the former Jayhawk will not be developing further with the Warriors. Lawson has reportedly signed with the San Antonio Spurs on an Exhibit 10 deal that can be then converted to a two-way contract.

With enough time on the court to get comfortable at the professional level, Lawson has a valuable skill set to offer any team.

In college, he averaged 19.4 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. But what seemingly would have made him attractive to a Golden State team short on superstars is his efficiency from three-point range. He shot just under 40 percent from deep at Kansas.

Now, though, the San Antonio Spurs will be the beneficiaries of Lawson’s developing potential.
