Dedicated school teacher is this week's 'Say it With Flowers' recipient

A principal teacher at Berryhill Primary has been nominated to receive this week's 'Say it With Flowers'.

Marina Mathieson was praised for dedicating her life to the wellbeing of her pupils and support to the wider Craigneuk community.

She was nominated by Margaret Ann Murray, who said Marina "goes above and beyond" to make sure the children and families in the community are supported, "especially at this difficult time".

Margaret Ann told Lanarkshire Live : “She is a true unsung hero and is deserving of the recognition for all her hard work in helping and supporting the most vulnerable families in our community.”

Marina, 58, lives in Glasgow with her family and has been a teacher at the Craigneuk Primary in Wishaw for over 22 years.

She was appointed principal teacher 12 years ago and in that time she has devoted her life to the health and wellbeing of vulnerable families throughout the local community.

And when Margaret Ann told us about Marina, we were only too pleased to be able to help, surprising her with this stunning floral arrangement, courtesy of our friend at Pixies Petals in Newmains.

“Marina has worked tirelessly for many years, not only within our school community but in the wider community as a whole,” said Margaret Ann.

On receiving the flowers Marina told us : “It was a lovely surprise to receive the flowers.

"My remit is health and wellbeing and I work with the community, the children themselves, and their families.

“I got the opportunity to do a forest school twice-a-week and we have a site down near the golf course in Craigneuk.

"I do different things that develop their emotions and wellbeing and am also the health and wellbeing champion within the school.

“I would like to thank Margaret Ann and the parents for nominating me and to the Wishaw Press and Pixies Petals for the lovely flowers.”
