Dedicated mum and health professional is this weeks flowers winner

A dedicated mum and selfless health care professional has been recognised by her loving daughter.

Ann Owen, a retired health care assistant who now works with the at home service in University Hospital Wishaw, was nominated for our Say It With Flowers award by her daughter, Gillian.

Ann, 69, originally from Glasgow, has lived with her husband, George, in Wishaw for over 40 years, and has dedicated her life to working in the health care profession.

She latterly worked as a phlebotomist and heath care assistant for NHS Lanarkshire in Coatbridge health centre for a number of years before she retired, and since her retirement has worked for the at home service at Wishaw General.

Gillian said: “My mum retired from NHS Lanarkshire a few years ago, but still continued to work bank shifts as a phlebotomist and health care assistant.

“Over the past two years she has worked with the hospital at home service at Wishaw General.

“She works with a fantastic team of colleagues, whom my mum loves working with.

“My mum got Covid-19 in April but was soon back at work as soon as she could.

“She is such a caring person and nothing is ever too much trouble to her.

“She has helped me out by looking after both my children over the years, and my niece too.”

Ann has two children, Gillian who lives in the USA, and David, who lives locally and three grandchildren, Nina, Max and Kayla.

As well as being devoted to her grandchildren, Ann was dedicated to caring for her mum before she sadly passed away last year.

Gillian explained: “My gran passed away in June and required a lot of care and mum did this for many years. This allowed my granny to stay at home like she wanted.

“She is 70 this year and shows no signs of stopping working.”

And when Gillian contacted us regarding Ann’s nomination, we were delighted to present her with these beautiful flowers, courtesy of our friends at Pixies Petals.

“I hope these flowers let her know how wonderful she is; she is the best mum a girl could ask for,” said Gillian.
