Dede Westbrook was a force from the slot in 2018

The Jacksonville Jaguars didn’t have the production fans had hoped for at the receiver position, but one player who showed promise from the group was Dede Westbrook. In a season where the offense struggled, Westbrook was able to rack up 66 catches for 717 receiving yards, both of which was good for first on the team. And while he proved he can do it all, he was especially strong in the slot where all of his five receiving touchdowns came from on the season.

Upon the arrival of new offensive coordinator John DeFilippo, we stated that Marqise Lee would be a good weapon from the slot for his scheme due to his comparison to Nelson Agholor, however, Westbrook could be a good fit there , too. Head coach Doug Marrone has already come out to say that he will look to identify the team’s best playmakers and put them in the position they’ll best flourish at, which makes for an interesting situation between Westbrook and Lee.

Regardless as to who the Jags view as the best weapon from the interior, it appears they won’t need to draft or sign a slot guy this offseason. Instead, the focus should be for a No. 1 caliber receiver on the outside who can give them what they once had in Allen Robinson.
