Decomposing bodies of 17 dead dogs, cats and rabbits found in man's disgusting home

The bodies of seventeen dead dogs, cats and rabbits were found decomposing in a man's home.

RSCPA inspectors were called to the home of Mark Blackburn in Eccles, Salford where they found the dead animals.

The animals were discovered on December 8 2019, but pleaded guilty on September 14 in Manchester Magistrates' Court, Manchester Evening News reports.

Shocking images show the filthy home with dead animals being crammed into cages.

There were seventeen dead bodies found, along with five underweight Akitas, with three of them needing to be put on a drip.

RSCPA inspector Danni Jennings shares the shocking scene she arrived at and said that she could smell the decomposing bodies before she saw them.

An RSPCA inspector found the animals spread across different rooms in a house (RSPCA)

She said: “In the living room directly off the hallway on the right, there was a dead, black adult rabbit in a wooden box.

"This box contained no food or water.

“Under the window, behind a bed head was another dead, black adult rabbit. In the middle of this room, was a decomposing, what appeared to be a pug type dog.

“This dog appeared to have been scavenged as parts of its legs and face were missing and there was a heavy maggot infestation.

“In a dog crate at the back of this room were two more pug type dogs.

"These too were in a state of decomposition. There was no food or water visible in this crate."

She went on to find a decomposed Akita in the kitchen, along with another box containing a dead rabbit.

The dirty property had been left without any food or water, and the animals had died from dehydration and hunger (RSPCA)

In the hallway, Danni came across two cardboard boxes with the lids shut and upon opening them she found two dead rabbits with no food or water.

Upstairs, the decomposed body of another Akita was found in a crate in the main bedroom.

An expert vet said the decomposition of the animals suggested they all died at various times from dehydration as no drinking water was present at the house.

He explained: “All would have suffered from mechanisms of pain, headaches, disorientation, intense thirst, weakness, fatigue, eventual collapse, organ failure and death for a period of at least five days, possibly longer.”

The five starving Akitas that were found were taken to the vet and it was discovered that four belonged to other breeders.

Five starved Akitas were rescued and have since recovered (RSPCA)

They have been returned to their owners and have made a full recovery, while the fifth one that was owned by Bradford will be rehomed with RSPCA.

It was heard in court that Blackburn suffers from depression and anxiety.

He has been sentenced to a 10-year ban on keeping animals and was also given four months custody suspended for six months for each offence to run concurrently.

He was also handed a 12-month community order including a Rehabilitation and Activity Requirement for 15 days and ordered to pay £900 costs.
