Decommissioned grenade in Co Tyrone sparks PSNI security alert

An old grenade found in Co Tyrone sparked a security alert on Thursday, according to the PSNI.

Police say a "suspicious object" was found in the Cookstown area on the afternoon of March 4.

It is understood that ATO were tasked to the scene before they removed the object for further examination.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "A suspicious object was discovered in the area this afternoon by police.

"ATO were tasked to examine the object and established it to be an old decommissioned grenade and removed it.

"Lissan Road has now reopened and residents have been able to return to their homes.

"Thank you for your patience."
