Declan Rice talks up West Ham ambitions ahead of second European campaign

Declan Rice is eager to see West Ham continue their upward trajectory this season.

David Moyes’ second stint in charge has been a huge success for a club previously battling relegation, with his side now heading into their second European campaign in as many seasons.

While dropping down into the Europa Conference League might have been seen as a disappointment, the competition offers a real chance of continental success.

During the club’s journey to the Europa League semi-finals last season, the London Stadium became much more of a home and those European nights are something Rice wants to build on.

In order to prepare for another busy season, Moyes has been active in the transfer market. Jesse Lingard’s move to Nottingham Forest was perhaps not in the Scotsman’s plan, although the signings of Nayef Aguerd and Gianluca Scamacca point to the ambition being shown in east London.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Rice said: “The last two seasons have been very good and above expectations. It’s only right now that we keep pushing and aim for even better.

“There is no point in standing still and being stale. West Ham is a massive club and, if we want to compete with the best, we need to keep improving and keep pushing on.”
